The South Australian Indian Medical Association Charity Gala Dinner 2025 united community leaders, healthcare professionals, and supporters for an evening celebrating Indigenous health and raising vital funds for the Kathryn Browne-Yung Scholarship Fund.
Guests were treated to a stirring vocal performance by Janaki Easwar—Voice of Australia contestant—whose soulful melodies underscored the Fund’s mission. Adding to the cultural tapestry, Josh Bennett on sitar and Jay Dabgar on tabla wove traditional Indian rhythms into a captivating instrumental set.
Representing the Kathryn Browne-Yung Scholarship Fund were Dr Nicole Spurrier, South Australia’s Chief Public Health Officer, and Board Members Prof. Alison Yung, Dr Tamara Mackean, alongside Dr. Ernie Tatarelli and Dr. Subodh Ganu. Their on-stage remarks highlighted Kathryn and Michael Yung’s shared vision of empowering first-year Indigenous medical students.
Thanks to the generosity of every attendee, this gala dinner raised over $10,000. These funds will directly support scholarships and mentoring programs—providing scholars with the stability they need during their critical first year of medical training.
As the final notes of music faded, the South Australian Indian Medical Association reaffirmed its commitment to Indigenous health leadership. With over $10,000 secured, the Fund moves forward with renewed momentum—ready to empower the next cohort of Indigenous doctors who will put health in Indigenous hands.
