Title of painting: Masri Gati
Artist: Norma Benger (Chidanpee).

'Masri gati', says Norma, 'describes a feeling of wellbeing of our spirit and body, in my language group, the Marathiel people of the Daly River region of the Northern Territory. The symbol of yams is in the earth, our mother, the Lizard is our food and our family. People sitting around is a symbol of healing. This comes from my father's country in the desert. All of these symbols surround the cell of life, which is in the centre. In the background is the snake, creator of everything for my people. It also represents healing in the field of medicine.'

This painting was commissioned by the Editors of the second edition of the book: Infectious diseases - a clinical approach. It was used as the cover of the book. (Published March 2005)
